From the Soil of Bangladesh: Why I’m Building EVOA
As a designer in Bangladesh, I’ve always felt we are sitting on a goldmine. Not of gold or oil, but of substance.
Every day, I walk past materials that most people ignore—the jute drying by the roadside, the rich clay of our riverbanks, the discarded shells in our coastal markets, and the incredible woodworking traditions in our small villages. To me, these aren’t just “raw materials.” They are the DNA of our culture.
That is why I started EVOA.
The Thought: Beyond Just “Making”
For a long time, I asked myself: Why do we import plastic goods when we have the most beautiful natural fibers and minerals right here? My goal with EVOA isn’t just to be another brand. It’s to prove that “Made in Bangladesh” can mean world-class, sophisticated design. But more importantly, I wanted to solve a human problem. I see so many talented people in our communities—people with “magic in their hands”—who struggle to find work. EVOA is a bridge. We take the brilliance of these artisans and give it a modern, global direction.
The “How”: A Lab, Not a Factory
We don’t believe in mindless mass production. Our process is much more like a laboratory.
We take metal, jute, stone, and bone and we play with them. We ask: How can we make this stone feel soft? How can we make this jute look like high-end luxury? * Sourcing: We go to the source. We find the best cotton from our local weavers and the strongest bamboo from our hills.
Collaboration: I sit down with our makers—talented men and women who need this opportunity and we prototype together. It’s a messy, beautiful, creative process where the “designer” and the “artisan” are equals.
Refinement: We use a “Metro Style” aesthetic—clean lines, vibrant colors, and minimal clutter—to ensure our natural products look stunning in a modern apartment in Dhaka or a gallery in New York.
Why Natural? Because it Breathes.
Natural materials have a “pulse.” A plastic chair is dead; a wooden chair, a jute rug, or a clay vase has a story.
Leather and Cotton feel better against the skin.
Soil and Stone bring a sense of calm to a room.
Scallop Shells and Metal add a shimmer that no synthetic paint can ever replicate.
We choose natural because it’s better for our health, better for our environment, and frankly, it just looks more beautiful as it ages.
Our Promise
EVOA is a journey of discovery. We are still learning, still researching, and still finding new ways to turn our Bangladeshi heritage into modern masterpieces. When you support EVOA, you aren’t just buying a product; you are supporting a designer’s dream and an artisan’s livelihood.
We’re on a mission to discover common, natural materials that can be transformed into amazing products.
